The Exmoor pony is a rare breed native to the British Isles. Many herds can be found running free at Exmoor National Park, a large area of moorland in Devon and Somerset in southwest England. Historically, these hardy ponies were used for farm work and riding. Exmoor ponies are particularly well-adapted to cold and wet weather and therefore very hardy, having conformation similar to that of other cold-weather-adapted pony breeds. Today the Exmoor is mainly used for pleasure riding and the show ring. The Exmoor has been given "endangered" status.
